The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the declarations of the Kingdom of Morocco, regarding the participation of the Delegation of the Democratic Sahrawi Republic in the TICAD8.
“Tunisia kept its complete neutrality on the question of Western Sahara in respect of international legitimacy. This is an inconvenience that does not change until the parties involved have found a peaceful and acceptable solution by all, “the department said in an issued statement.
“Tunisia respects the United Nations resolutions and that of the African Union whose country occurs to be one of the founders. In this context, it should specify that, contrary to what has been stated in the Moroccan declaration, since the African Union in its capacity as the main participant in the Ticad had made public a memorandum inviting all its members, including the Republic Arabic Sahrawi to partake in the Ticad ”, the same source added.
The department in question likewise said that the president of the African commission had also sent a direct invitation to the Sahrawi Republic. These two invitations come in application to the decisions of the Executive Council of the African Union, at its meeting in Zambia on July 14 and 15, 2022, in the attendance of the Moroccan delegation, where the necessity to invite all members of the African Union were underscored (…).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also recollected the position of neutrality that our country had always adopted in relation to the question of the Western Sahara.
The same source said that Tunisia decided to immediately recall its ambassador to Rabat for consultations.
