Japanese have made robot that walks using living muscles!

Researchers at the University of Tokyo in Japan have revealed that they have made a small bipedal robot that walks operating living muscles made from rat cells. Although extremely slow and very basic(…).

In an article published in the journal Matter, the researchers detail how they made this robot’s muscles from rat cells, which they then combined with legs made of a flexible substrate, 3D-printed feet and afloat.

The robot solely moves underwater, because water assists keep muscle tissue hydrated. In this very simple form, they dehydrate much too quickly in the open air. In addition, this permits the use of a float to keep it upright and simplify the system, details the same source.
