Perfectly kept dinosaur embryo from 66 million years ago found

Palaeontologists from the University of Birmingham have discovered an extremely rare, preserved dinosaur embryo curled up inside a fossilised egg, in southern China.

The embryo was found in Ganzhou in southern China and researchers estimate it is at least 66 million years old.

It is believed to be a toothless theropod dinosaur, or oviraptorosaur, and has been named Baby Yingliang.

Researcher Dr Fion Waisum Ma said it is “the best dinosaur embryo ever found in history”.

The embryo is reminiscent of a posture not very different from birds in the embryonic stage of development. In fact it is more reminiscent of that of birds than other dinosaurs.
