Russian war against Ukraine: Present situation (Ukrainian Embassy in Tunisia)

MILITARY ADVANCEMENTS

• President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined in recent interview with Bild the main prospects for the development of the military-political situation in Ukraine. Defence Forces of Ukraine are preparing to deter the enemy, in particular, the defense of Kharkiv is being enhanced.

• We are fighting for victory. Ukraine is not only defending itself, but also has plans for a counteroffensive. Russia has a quantitative advantage in weapons and human resources. However, Ukraine is able to gain a qualitative, including technological, advantage.

• Ukraine heeds all international initiatives aimed at ending the war and seeks to once again emphasize that the current military circumstances and aggressive steps of Russia do not give grounds for initiating negotiations with it.

RUSSIAN AGGRESSION AGAINST UKRAINE CANNOT BE CALLED THE “UKRAINIAN CRISIS

• The term “Ukrainian crisis” is unacceptable for characterizing the Russian-Ukrainian war. Ukraine is neither the cause nor the source of crisis phenomena in international relations. The real situation would be more consistent with the concept of “Russian crisis” because it was Putin’s regime that turned its country into a source of instability and threats.

• In the war with Russia, Ukraine is not competing for the laurels of the winner. Ukrainians are only interested in security and justice, but the Kremlin regime is not ready to negotiate about these basic needs. Restoration of stable peace is impossible while condoning aggression and accepting the occupation of foreign territories.

• Russia started the war, and it is Russia that can end it at any moment by withdrawing the occupation troops from Ukraine and returning to compliance with international law.

RUSSIAN RHETORIC ABOUT “REVENGE” AND “RETALIATION

• Russian propaganda is trying to present the destruction of Ukraine’s energy system facilities as “revenge” for Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries. Enemy propaganda often calls its acts of terror “revenge” or “retaliation” for some action of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

• Thus, the Kremlin pretends to be not an aggressor, but a victim, appeals to “justice” and tries to form a negative attitude of Ukrainians to the proactive actions of the Defence Forces. In fact, every act or campaign of terror of Russia is planned in advance and is never an “impulsive reaction” to the achievements of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. It was Russia that launched an unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, and Russian attacks will continue regardless of whether the Ukrainian Defence Forces attack objects on the territory of Russia or not. The enemy will always find an “excuse.”

• Instead, the Ukrainian Defence Forces will continue successful attacks against the enemy’s legitimate military targets because only an armed victory of Ukraine, not a “refusal to provoke,” will guarantee the cessation of Russian terror.
