Senior Muslim Brotherhood leader Essam el-Erian dies in Egyptian prison

A senior leader of the Muslim Brotherhood group, Essam el-Erian, died in prison at the age of 66 on Thursday due to a heart attack, according to local reports.

El-Erian, the vice-chairman of the group’s political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party, was detained in 2013. An Egyptian court issued their final verdicts in September 2019 against el-Erian and other top officials from the Muslim Brotherhood.
