Tunisia-60,000 Tunisians suffer from schizophrenia

Psychiatric specialist Anwar Jaraya stated on Sunday, March 14th that approximately 60,000 Tunisians suffer from schizophrenia, according to recent statistics, the TAP reported.
Cited by the news agency, Anwar Jarraya, doctor and psychotherapist for children and adults and professor at the Faculty of Medicine, reveals that schizophrenia is one of the most serious psychological illnesses affecting the psychology of people. According to the World Health Organization, schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental disorder affecting 20 million people worldwide
It is distinguished by distortions in thinking, perception, emotions, language, sense of self and behaviour. Common experiences include hallucinations (hearing voices or seeing things that are not there) and delusions (fixed, false beliefs).
People with schizophrenia are 2-3 times more likely to die early than the general population (2). This is often due to preventable physical diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, metabolic disease and infections.
