Tunisia-Climate science specialist: “temperatures registered in January are unusual, possibility of rainfall is still possible” [Video]

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, climate science expert Adel Hentat stated on Thursday, February 1, 2024, that Tunisia’s current weather conditions, marked by scarce rain and unusually high temperatures during the peak winter months, are mainly attributable to climate change. He reported that the phenomena known as “white and black nights” have seen temperatures shifting from the norm, occasionally falling below zero degrees in the past, unlike the current trends.

Hentati observed that while rain levels in December were quite favourable, foreshadowing whether Tunisia will experience the influx of new cold air masses shortly remains challenging. This uncertainty is particularly pronounced due to the elevated desert air pressure, leading to unpredictable weather fluctuations in the upcoming periods.

Furthermore, he stressed the ongoing possibility of polar climate variations, implying that additional rainfall could occur. However, pinpointing the exact timing for these potential rainfalls proves hard, indicating a degree of unpredictability in future weather patterns.
