Updates COVID-19 in Tunisia :

Tunisia reported on July 21st 2309 new coronavirus infections and 139 deaths including 48 reported on July 21st. The death toll stands now at 18, 052 while the infection tally at 558.306.

Head of the Neonatal Resuscitation Department at Tunis Military Hospital and President of the Tunisian Pediatric Association, Mohamed Douagi confirmed that 3,000 children were infected by the Coronavirus in one week. He revealed that Delta Variant is behind the quickened percentage of infection in adults as well as in children.

In the same context, Mr Douagi criticized the performance of the scientific committee in its battle against the pandemic, calling it inadequate. He called upon the committee to resign.

Health professionals refuse to cancel annual leave

The General Union of Doctors, Pharmacists and University Hospital Dentists condemned the government decision to cut annual leave in the health sector, due to the health crisis. It should be noted that PM Mechichi has called to cancel the annual health for health teams.

At least 17 migrants drown off Tunisia in shipwreck

At least 17 Bengali migrants drowned in a shipwreck off Tunisia as they tried to cross the Mediterranean to Italy from Libya, while more than 380 were rescued by the coastguard, Reuters reported citing the Tunisian Red Crescent.

Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi made an inquiry visit of the vaccination campaign in Sejnan and Jomin in Bizerte, where he emphasised the necessity to accelerate the vaccination pace.

He asked to give priority to mobile vaccination campaigns in villages and remote areas and the use of primary health centres and clinics in this campaign.
